Officially assigned as the Drilling Operations Engineer responsible for a land or an offshore rig.
Primary Purpose of the Job:
Assist field development in preparation of drilling, workover and completion well objectives/ proposals liaison with production geologists, reservoir engineer and production technologist, prior to field development issuing the final agreed on well proposal.
Based on the well proposal prepared by field development, prepares the detailed step by step drilling, workover and completion programs for execution on rig site as per field development well proposals and objectives.
Carry out all drilling and workover operation engineering duties related to assigned onshore rigs.
Plan and specify drilling equipment, materials and services required for each well.
Plan and design the most cost effective and trouble free directional and horizontal well paths and ensures care is taken to minimize formation damage and deviation from geological targets by daily monitoring and revision (if necessary) of drilling operations.
Provide the onsite engineering technical expertise and supervision during casing and cementation, cement squeezing, milling, fishing and drill stem testing and well killing operations.
Plan and optimizes rig move for the assigned rig through preparation of rig schedule/drilling sequence.
Prepare final well report and failure/success reports.
Participate in the training and development of assigned trainees, departmental well cost budget control implementation and in contract preparation and evaluation is required.
Arranges for various required drilling services such as cementing, logging, coring, casing / liner services, mud engineering and ensures all contractors are up to date on the progress of the drilling operations and when their services are required.
Requests, reviews and analyzes lab results of mud chemicals and cement slurry designs prior to approving for use in the well.
Monitors the operations of the assigned rig (on call 24 hours a day) and recommends revision and changes in the drilling program as necessary, to ensure the well objectives / targets are not compromised, especially in horizontal wells, were close * liaison is always maintained with the Drilling Supervisor, Field Development geologists and directional service companies.
Provides rig site technical supervision of special casing cementation, remedial cementation, well killing, well control and lost circulation situations.
Prepares the official final well drilling, workover and completion reports. Prepares and evaluates success / failure reports. Prepares final detailed well cost reports. Prepares the final mud engineers recap report at the end of the well.
Participates in preparation of annual well cost budget, equipment technical inspection / evaluation of contract preparation as required.
Takes an active role in the training and development of assigned personnel.
Prepares drilling / workover rig schedule / sequence and plans for optimum rig move schedule.
Ensure drilling well files are updated and maintained as official well records and data base.
Ensures drilling information system is maintained and well data are accurate and representative.
Ensures that QHSE issues are well managed within the (Drilling / Workover / Rigless) programme.
Requirements:
10-15 years experience.
Bsc in Petroleum Engineering plus relevant specialized industry courses in drilling, cementing, mud engineers, horizontal and directional drilling, completion, drilling bits/wellhead and well control certification.
Must be computer literate.
