An exciting opportunity with a global integrated Energy Company who are expanding their data management group and seek a Data Analyst to look after their department subsurface geotechnical data which includes geological, geophysical, petrophysical and engineering data.

The Company is an established global organisation engaged in the exploration and production of oil and gas and also in refining and the delivery of natural gas, petroleum products and electricity to the market. They have offices across six continents and continue to expand their offerings.

The Company is expanding their data management function globally and have a team looking after departmental data and a team looking after corporate data (Enterprise Data Analysts). This position is a member of the Global Data Management function embedded within the department of Exploration and Production Technology Business Unit.

With a strong understanding of subsurface geotechnical data your primary responsibility will be the care and maintenance of departmental technical data within the groups that perform subsurface technical work. This includes building, quality assuring and maintaining corporate standardized project databases, and working with Data Analysts who look after the corporate data to ensure data consistency across the Value Chain.

As well as ensuring high quality standard project databases, you will be responsible for the oversight and validation of the promotion process to the Technically Validated Database (TVDB). By working in conjunction with the subsurface professionals, you will ensure that Company’s digital technical knowledge is captured according to the standard TVDB process.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Data Management Team Leader this role encompasses many functions including:

• Work with Geoscientists, Petrophysicists, Engineers and other Geoscience support personnel to ensure that data is received in industry-standard formats and stored according to corporate policies.
• Collect, QC and load digital technical data into standardized project databases.
• Ensure the validity of the data as part of the TVDB Promotion process and oversee the promotion process for the assigned department.
• Collect, ensure quality control, and load geotechnical data into the departmental project databases.
• Apply regular updates to those databases.
• Work with Enterprise Data Analysts to ensure that there is integrity and consistency between the corporate and project databases.
• Ensure that all data corrections and additions are passed on to the Enterprise Data Analysts for capture in the corporate level databases
• Work with other members of the Data Management team to process data digitization and conversion requests.

Preferences:

The successful candidate will have:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Geoscience or Reservoir Engineering is desirable.
• Some work experience in the oil and gas industry with relevant experience in Geoscience and/or Petrophysical applications and/or data management essential.
• Comprehensive knowledge of geotechnical data (Geological, Geophysical, Petrophysical and Engineering) and the management of that data.
• Working knowledge of at least one of the following application suites: Paradigm, Geoframe, Petra, and/or Petrel, with particular emphasis on the data management tools essential.
• Experience with data quality tools such as Datavera or Innerlogix - highly desirable.
• Experience using/supporting interpretation software is highly advantageous (especially Paradigm interpretation suite).
• Experience with well data management in support of exploration and/or production activities - highly desirable.
• Ability to build standardized well databases using Geolog highly advantageous.
• Highly technical with the ability to learn and effectively use any new software products required for the performance of duties.
• Strong understanding of data quality tools and processes and a high appreciation for effective data management principals.
• Ability to prioritise work in support of multifaceted subsurface teams working to varied deadlines (some of which will have very short timeframes).
• Ability to work in a matrix organization, performing tasks locally but as a member of a global network.
• Excellent communication skills – the ability to communicate effectively and work with the business unit and technical support staffs, as well as management.
• Highly organized with an attention to detail. • Self motivated, adaptable and enthusiastic with a proactive approach to tasks.
