
The Oman Daily Observer reports that Eni has commenced drilling the first deep-water well in Oman. The Pacifica Bora drillship, chartered by Eni Oman, has commenced drilling activities in Block 52, a vast deepwater concession that extends off the Sultanate’s southern and south-eastern seaboard.
Block 52 is an underexplored area with hydrocarbons potential located offshore in the southern region of Oman. Block 52 has an area of approx. 90,000 Km2, with water depths ranging from 10 to over 3,000 meters.
Eni signed the EPSA for Block 52 in November 2017. The Company subsequently signed an agreement for the assignment of 30% interest in Block 52 to Qatar Petroleum. Eni is the Operator of the block, through its subsidiary Eni Oman, with a 55% stake, Qatar Petroleum holds a 30% stake and Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production (OOCEP) has 15%.
