17 Oct 2011
Mari Gas Company has announced a significant oil discovery in the Karak Block during the drilling of Halini well. The Karak Block is located at the boundaries of KPK and Punjab Provinces (between the districts of Karak and Mianwali). The Halini well was spudded on January 07, 2011. The well has been drilled to a depth of 5,350 meters. During the initial short duration tests carried out, the well flowed at the average rate of 1,700 barrels/day of 26 API gravity oil on a 32/64” choke size.
The flow rates from the well are expected to increase with further testing and stimulation treatment which is planned to be conducted, shortly. The prospect is estimated to spread over a large area and the Company is planning to drill additional wells to delineate the exact extent, size and reserves potential of this oil discovery.
The Karak Block was granted to Mari Gas, as operator and 100% interest owner, on April 14, 2005. Subsequently MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas Company acquired 40% interest share in the Block from Mari Gas.
Mari Gas also made a gas/condensate discovery last year in its 100% operated Sujawal Block in Sindh which is being put on test production by installing early production facilities. Mari gas is also proud of discovering the first ever oil in Balochistan when it’s Ziarat well flowed oil which is currently being evaluated/appraised for bringing it on production. Other recent discovery of gas by Mari Gas in its Sukkur Block’s Koonj well has also been put on test production for gas supply to SNGPL.
Mari Gas is currently also implementing the project for supply of 44 MMSCF/D gas from its Mari Deep Reservoir to SNGPL.
Mari Gas presently operates two development & production leases, seven exploration licenses and has non-operating working interest share in another seven exploration licenses. Mari Gas has the distinction of being the lowest cost operator in the country with its operating expenses ranging within 7% of its revenues as compared to 21% to 27% of other major Pakistani E&P companies.
