Norway: Total receives OK for Skirne field start-up

31 Dec 2003

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Total E&P Norge AS its consent for start-up and operation of the Skirne field in Production License 102, block 25/5. The licensees in Production License 102 are Total E&P Norge AS Operator), Petoro AS, Marathon Petroleum Norge AS and Norsk Hydro Produksjon AS. The Skirne field is located about 140 km northwest of Stavanger and has been developed with the two wells Skirne and Byggve. The distance from the Skirne well westward to the Heimdal platform is 24 km. The Byggve well is located in between, 16 km east of Heimdal. Both fields have a sea depth of 120 meters. Skirne and Byggve are two small gas and condensate fields, which were discovered in 1990 and 1991 and immediately declared commercial. Development plans were soon prepared, but held back due to financial uncertainty within the project. New development studies were started in 1999 in cooperation between the licensees, and this resulted in a final Plan for Development and Operation which was approved by the authorities on July 5, 2002. Skirne and Byggve have both been developed with a bottom structure and X-mas tree and are tied to a 12" pipeline to Heimdal via two 6" flexible pipes. On the Heimdal Riser Platform there is a dedicated installation for inlet separation and flow measurement of the process stream from the Skirne field. After the inlet separation, gas and fluid are transported to the existing process and export facilities on the Heimdal Main Platform for further transport. The gas will be transported to Britain via Vesterled or to the Continent via Statpipe. The condensate will be transported via the UK Brae field facilities and to Britain. Start-up of production from the Skirne field is planned for February 1, 2004 at the earliest.
