Tanzania: Gazprom interested in projects in Tanzania
04 Feb 2014
Russian gas export monopoly Gazprom is interested in projects in Tanzanian offshore and inland areas, including Lake Tanganyika, according to a report of the subsidiary Gazprom International.
According to the report, given Tanzania’s terms for participants of licence tenders, potential partners and strategic investors, Gazprom International’s specialists will soon complete the examination of geologic and geophysical and other information received to determine the prospects of further operation in Tanzania. Gazprom International is Gazprom’s unified company specializing in search, exploration, and development of hydrocarbon deposits outside Russia.
Tanzania has considerable mineral resources, including natural gas whose geological resources are estimated at 1.7 trillion cubic metres as of early 2012. In mid-2012 the country commissioned the gas field Zafarani with the resources of 170 billion cubic metres.
