- Neoen has signed a 10-year renewable energy baseload agreement to supply power to BHP’s Copper South Australia mines from July 2029
- This follows Neoen and BHP’s first baseload deal of 70 MW which started in July 2025
- To fulfill this new 100 MW agreement Neoen will combine output from Goyder North Wind Farm with storage from Goyder Battery, supported by its energy management expertise
- Once these assets are launched into construction, it will take Neoen’s total contribution to South Australia’s energy transition past 1.5 GW
Neoen, one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, has signed a 100 MW renewable energy baseload agreement to supply power to BHP, a world-leading resources company. This agreement, starting in July 2029, will supply renewable energy to BHP’s Olympic Dam, Carrapateena and Prominent Hill mines in South Australia, in one of the world’s most significant basins for copper.
This new agreement will provide BHP with a 24/7 100 MW supply solution which combines output from the first 300 MW of Neoen’s future Goyder North Wind Farm, with storage from their new Goyder Battery (with a minimum capacity of 200 MW / 800 MWh) supported by Neoen’s advanced energy management expertise. It builds on their first baseload agreement of 70 MW which started on schedule in July 2025 and is underpinned by Neoen’s Goyder South Stage 1 Wind Farm and Blyth Battery. Together, these two PPAs are expected to meet around 70% of BHP’s electricity needs in South Australia from renewables in 2030. They also symbolise a step-change in how the State powers its industrial energy demand and growth.
Goyder North Wind Farm has planning consent for up to 135 turbines, equivalent to approximately 1 GW of wind generation, and Goyder Battery is approved for up to 900 MW / 3,600 MWh of storage. Both assets are part of Goyder Renewables Zone, Neoen’s flagship hybrid renewable energy hub located near the town of Burra in the Mid-North region of South Australia.
The assets will be built in stages, creating up to 550 construction jobs and approximately 20 permanent, long-term roles. They will also deliver benefit-sharing contributions to First Nations peoples, the local community and the environment. By way of example, Neoen’s Goyder South Stage 1 Wind Farm unlocked the creation of a new national park at Worlds End Gorge, an award-winning industry first initiative.
Once Goyder North Wind Farm and Goyder Battery are launched into construction, Neoen’s total contribution to the South Australian energy transition will surpass 1.5 GW of renewable energy and storage capacity.
