For the first time in its history, the Búzios field surpassed the mark of 10 million m³/d of average natural gas exports in a single month. The result of 10.8 million m³/d achieved in July consolidates the field's growth trajectory and reinforces the operational reliability of its platforms in the continuous delivery of gas to the Brazilian market.
The previous monthly record was from March 2026, with 9.1 million m³/d. The current record was also accompanied by a new daily export record . On August 6th, Búzios reached 14.1 million m³/d , surpassing the previous record of 13.9 million m³/d, registered in July.
In July 2024, the field's average daily export was 4.7 million m³/d. Since then, the commissioning of Route 3 and the implementation of new projects have sustained the continuous growth of gas exports in Búzios.

'Petrobras has repeatedly invested in increasing the country's gas production, and these investments are the only ones capable of reducing the price of gas. As long as the law of supply and demand is not repealed, changing the hands of the gas company will not reduce the price. What really reduces the price are consistent investments to increase production,' said the president of Petrobras, Magda Chambriard.
Gains from optimization
The gains do not stem from the introduction of new production systems, but from the optimization of existing units. Among the main initiatives is the modernization program for the gas treatment plants on the P-74, P-75, P-76, and P-77 platforms, with the replacement of CO2 removal membranes. Started in 2025 and in its final implementation phase, the project has increased the export capacity of these units from approximately 1.5 million to 3 million m³/d per platform, with the potential to reach even higher levels after complementary process adjustments. The FPSO Almirante Barroso also contributes to the results achieved.
The expansion of gas export capacity will continue in the coming years, with the planned systems for the P-78 and P-79 platforms coming online by 2027. By the end of the field's development, eight of the 12 planned platforms will have gas export capacity, including the Búzios 12 unit, scheduled to begin operations in 2032 with an estimated capacity of 5.5 million m³/d.
The results reinforce the growing relevance of Búzios not only as one of the country's largest oil-producing assets, but also as one of the main pillars of natural gas supply to the Brazilian market, combining continuous gains in capacity, operational efficiency, and monetization of associated gas.
