- The unit is part of the company's series of giants, with gas production and processing capabilities among the largest in the world

The P-80 platform left the Tuas Boulevard Yard shipyard in Singapore this Wednesday (September 30th), heading towards the Búzios field in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, the largest field in Brazil in terms of reserves and production. With the capacity to produce 225,000 barrels of oil and process 12 million cubic meters of gas per day, one of the largest in the world industry, the P-80 is part of a set of six giant platforms belonging to Petrobras. The P-80 (Búzios 9) is the first of the series to leave the shipyard, and the next will be the P-82, which is in the final stages of construction. Both are expected to begin production in 2027.

'The P-80 stands out not only for its record-breaking production capacity among Petrobras' own platforms, but also for bringing together some of the most advanced technologies and digital solutions that guarantee greater operational and energy efficiency ever incorporated into a company project,' says Renata Baruzzi, Director of Engineering, Technology and Innovation at Petrobras.
The other platforms in the series, P-83, P-84 and P-85, will go to the Búzios, Atapu and Sépia fields, respectively, also in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin.
For Petrobras, building platforms in series reduces costs and brings productivity gains to shipyards, in addition to generating greater system reliability, reducing project risk, and accelerating field development. Another strategy being used is bringing the platform with the crew on board, which contributes to the operational readiness of the systems.
The P-80 process modules were manufactured in Brazil, at the Seatrium BrasFELS shipyard in Angra dos Reis; and the P-82 modules at the Seatrium Aracruz shipyard in Espírito Santo, contributing to workforce qualification and generating employment and income through the shipbuilding industry in Brazil. Construction also took place in China, Singapore, and Indonesia, and the modules were subsequently transported to Singapore for completion.
The construction of the platforms was contracted by Petrobras under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning) model, in which the contractor is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the unit until its delivery for operation in Brazil.
In August, the Búzios field broke monthly (more than 10 million m³/d) and daily (14.1 million m³/d) records for natural gas exports. It is operated by Petrobras, which partners with CNOOC and CNPC, as well as Pré-Sal Petróleo SA (PPSA).
