Survey will address critical data needs as exploration interest grows following the Morpho discovery

Shearwater Geoservices has announced the launch of the Amapá 3D multi-client seismic survey in partnership with SLB. Located offshore Amapá in northern Brazil’s Equatorial Margin, the project represents one of Shearwater’s most significant multi-client investments and will expand high-quality 3D seismic coverage in an underexplored area of the basin.

'The Morpho discovery has brought new attention to exploration offshore Amapá,' said Andrea Lovatini, Vice President Exploration Data and Geosolutions, SLB. 'As customers assess opportunities across the area, Amapá 3D will provide a clearer picture of the subsurface to help them evaluate prospectivity and make better-informed investment decisions.'

The survey area is located approximately 130 kms from the Morpho well, where a hydrocarbon discovery was announced. The project is designed to address critical subsurface data needs, improve geological understanding and prospect evaluation across the survey area.

'This project demonstrates Shearwaters growing position in the multi-client market,' said Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater. 'By combining Shearwater’s leading Isometrix® acquisition technology, operational expertise and track record in complex marine environments with SLB’s advanced imaging workflows, we are creating a premium regional dataset that will play an important role in supporting exploration and future licensing activity across Brazil’s Equatorial Margin.'

The partners will acquire high-density broadband data using Shearwater’s Isometrix® marine seismic technology aboard the Amazon Warrior. SLB will process and image the data using advanced workflows, including elastic full-waveform inversion. The resulting survey is expected to become a key source of regional subsurface intelligence supporting exploration activity and future licensing opportunities across Brazil’s Equatorial Margin.
