Aberdeenshire headquartered integrated services provider, AquaTerra Group, has reached the significant milestone of £3 million in revenue from renewable energy contracts. The firm has capitalised on the success of its first renewables contract which was completed in 2020, paving the way for several subsequent renewable projects.

The initial project was the hook-up and commissioning of the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore interconnection substation, BorWin3, located approximately 130km off the coast of Germany. AquaTerra designed, supplied and installed its in-house modular suspended access platform QuikDeck, for easy underdeck access, supporting critical path work scopes and reducing project duration which resulted in significant cost savings for the client.

Following on from this initial successful renewable project, AquaTerra is now working on front end engineering studies to assess the optimal access methods on new substations to ensure that future maintenance tasks can be completed efficiently and safely. The firm believes that early engagement with clients on such projects is the key to success and the current studies which the team are undertaking demonstrate this perfectly.

Stephen Taylor, Managing Director of AquaTerra Group, said: 'As a company, we are involved in the installation, construction and destruct phases of a project, so it makes sense to engage with us early in the front-end engineering design (FEED) and detail design stages so that we can provide our input into the feasibility of the proposed solution. This involvement at the FEED stage has allowed us to continue to support clients through to the preparation and hook-up stage.

'Our diverse skills and services that we possess, along with an excellent safety record, have allowed us to build on our track record of delivering exceptional results for the energy industry, now extending to the renewables market. Our approach to problem solving across the team and our experience of working on both offshore floating and fixed assets means that we are equipped to rapidly respond to the needs of our clients.'

AquaTerra is currently strengthening its position as an integrated services provider for the renewables sector by undergoing the F4OR Fit for Offshore Renewables programme. The initiative supports the development of competent, capable and competitive businesses within the UK offshore renewable energy supply chain.
