BNZ, an independent power producer that develops, builds, and operates multi-technology renewable energy projects, solidifies its transformation into a Next-Generation IPP with the announcement of its new strategic roadmap.

The company embarks on a phase of advanced management, evolving from the traditional renewable developer model into an integrated energy platform. This new approach places energy management and hybridization at the core of the business, a strategy backed by a total battery storage (BESS) pipeline of 850 MW, establishing itself as the key resource to provide flexibility and firmness to the entire portfolio.

As a first milestone in executing this roadmap, BNZ has confirmed the short-term activation of 530 MW of storage in Spain, Italy, and Portugal for the 2026–2027 period. This is a decisive step through which the company transcends its role as an energy producer to position itself as a comprehensive strategic partner capable of opening new markets with flexible models ranging from supply to co-development, while continuing to offer stable, tailored supply solutions for the full spectrum of demand. This versatility is underpinned by the technological sophistication of hybridization, which allows the company to maximize the value of each asset and guarantee the firmness essential for meeting current market needs.

In the words of Luis Selva, CEO of BNZ: 'At BNZ, we are at a moment of transformation for our model, evolving towards a multi-technology structure where hybridization is the fundamental pillar. This technological sophistication allows us to apply advanced energy management to transcend the role of a traditional developer and consolidate our position as a comprehensive strategic partner, capable of managing energy intelligently to optimize the performance and flexibility of our entire infrastructure'.

A multi-technology model of over 2.7 GW

With a global portfolio exceeding 2.7 GW, BNZ underpins its strategic evolution and reaffirms its position as an integrated energy platform in Europe. This diversified structure provides the scale and technical capacity essential to implement advanced management solutions.

Within the total 850 MW battery pipeline, the short-term deployment of 530 MW, with 260 MW in Spain, 210 MW in Italy, and 60 MW in Portugal, represents mobilizing more than 60% of its storage capacity, confirming the company’s leadership in managing projects of high technical and financial complexity.

This deployment is complemented by a solid renewable generation base comprising 1.6 GW of photovoltaic energy and 281 MW of wind power, establishing a multi-technology architecture designed to complement the energy grid and maximize natural resources at all times.

Financial strength to lead the energy transition

The incorporation of storage systems allows BNZ to offer the firmness and stability that the current market demands. Thanks to this storage capacity, the company can manage energy flexibly - allowing, for example, clean energy generated during peak production hours to be used at night or during periods of low irradiation -  thereby increasing energy self-sufficiency and ensuring a constant renewable supply.

This multi-technology approach, which intelligently integrates solar, wind, and battery assets, is underpinned by a solid capital structure backed by Nuveen Infrastructure, one of Europe’s largest renewable energy fund managers. This support guarantees the financial solvency necessary to directly manage the entire value chain, allowing BNZ to operate with a long-term vision, in parallel with the sustainable and social development of the environments where it is present.
