BW Catcher has obtained the ABATE notation from DNV, confirming that the FPSO meets the requirements for a structured and independently verified system for managing and reducing emissions. BW Catcher is one of the first FPSOs operating in the North Sea to receive this notation, reflecting BW Offshore’s continued focus on energy efficiency and environmental performance.

The ABATE notation confirms that the unit has implemented a robust framework aligned with ISO 50001 requirements for energy management, covering key areas including power and heat generation (P+), flaring (F), process leaks and vents (Pr), and storage venting (S). This achievement builds on operational initiatives implemented since 2017 and supports BW Offshore’s 2030 Environmental Ambitions. The certification reflects BW Offshore’s continued focus on improving energy efficiency, reducing emissions through design and operational measures, and strengthening environmental performance across its operations.

'Achieving the ABATE notation reflects our long-term approach to responsible operations and continuous improvement across our fleet. BW Catcher has implemented a strong system to limit emissions, enhance energy efficiency and maintain high environmental performance standards. This milestone reinforces our commitment to pioneering sustainable solutions and setting new benchmarks for FPSO operations,' said Marco Beenen, CEO, BW Offshore.

'We are pleased to award the ABATE notation to BW Catcher. This reflects the application of structured emission management, building on their existing ETS compliance, in line with evolving industry standards. We look forward to continued collaboration as emission reduction practices advance,' said Scott Jervis, Regional Offshore Manager, DNV.

The occasion was marked by a small gathering at our Aberdeen office, with Scott Jervis and Senior Principal Surveyor, Ray Legg from DNV. Here with HSEQ Coordinator, Oleksandra Lavreniuk and Head of Operations, Asgeir Skjeløy.

During the gathering, the BW Offshore team highlighted the work behind achieving the notation, the importance of continued improvement, and the fact that the ABATE notation requires annual demonstration to be maintained. A special thank you was extended to both offshore and onshore teams for their sustained efforts in implementing and maintaining the required measures.
