On Monday, 19 October, Minister of Energy Terje Aasland officially opens the Skarv satellites at Skarv FPSO in the Norwegian Sea. The opening marks that the Alve Nord, Idun Nord and Ørn fields have started production.

The three fields are tied into existing infrastructure at Skarv and reinforce the area as a production hub in the Norwegian Sea. The project covers around 120 million barrels of oil equivalent in recoverable resources and came on stream one year earlier than originally planned.

'The opening marks the conclusion of a project we are extremely proud of. We have brought together three developments in one project, started production from three new fields, and reinforced one of our most important production areas. The result demonstrates what we can achieve through close collaboration between employees, partners and suppliers,' says Karl Johnny Hersvik, CEO of Aker BP.

The gas from the Skarv area is processed at Skarv FPSO and transported by pipeline via the Åsgard transport system to Kårstø. The satellite fields thereby help maintain gas deliveries from the Norwegian Sea and reinforce Skarv’s role as a long-term hub for production and export.

The development has been carried out in close cooperation between Aker BP, the licence partners and the supplier industry. The use of existing infrastructure facilitates further resource utilisation and low emissions per produced unit.

'The Skarv satellites demonstrate how existing infrastructure on the Norwegian shelf can be used to create significant value for society. Alve Nord, Idun Nord and Ørn strengthen activity in the Norwegian Sea and contribute to positive employment effects and to Norway remaining a stable supplier of energy in an uncertain world,' says Minister of Energy Terje Aasland (Labour Party).

Representatives from the authorities, licence partners, trade unions and industry are taking part in the event on board Skarv FPSO.
