The UK maintained the top spot in Europe’s offshore wind market in 2025, installing 1.3GW of offshore capacity, the second largest globally after China, according to BloombergNEF’s Global Wind Turbine Market Shares 2025.
The UK’s success came as global wind installations hit a record 169GW last year, marking the third consecutive year of top growth, with mainland China driving most of the expansion.
In addition, the UK saw major projects come online, including Ocean Winds’ 882MW Moray West and the 432MW Neart na Gaoithe wind farm, both using Siemens Gamesa turbines.
Looking ahead, the UK’s offshore sector is set to expand rapidly with the government recently awarding 8.4GW of offshore wind capacity, which BloombergNEF expects to come online before the end of the decade.
The UK is also attracting new supply-chain investment, with Chinese turbine maker Mingyang announcing plans to invest up to £1.5bn in a Scottish wind turbine factory with Octopus Energy, underscoring the country’s growing role in the global offshore wind industry.
