
Strategic collaboration combines Verlume’s field-proven subsea power platform and intelligent control technology with SubCtech’s subsea battery and manufacturing capability to expand the delivery of dependable, integrated power solutions for subsea operations.
Verlume, a world-leading specialist in intelligent subsea power, communications and control, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with German subsea battery producer SubCtech to collaborate on the development and delivery of integrated subsea power solutions.
The agreement builds on an established working relationship between Verlume and SubCtech, with the two companies currently collaborating on an active project. It formalises a shared commitment to deepen the partnership and jointly pursue new commercial opportunities across the offshore energy and defence sectors.
The MoU also brings together two complementary areas of expertise: Verlume’s field-proven subsea power platform and intelligent systems integration capability, and SubCtech’s established expertise in the development and production of high-performance battery systems for demanding maritime and subsea environments.
The agreement was announced during the Subsea Controls and Power Transmission Conference 2026 in Kristiansand, Norway, where industry leaders are meeting to discuss the next generation of subsea controls, power infrastructure and electrification.

Integrated Subsea Power Systems
At the heart of Verlume’s technology platform is Axonn, its intelligent control and orchestration layer. Axonn integrates power, communications and control within a unified architecture, autonomously managing how power is generated, stored, distributed and consumed across a subsea system.
Through the collaboration, SubCtech’s battery technology and established manufacturing capability can be integrated within this wider architecture, creating greater flexibility in how subsea power systems are configured to meet individual project requirements.
Rather than approaching subsea energy storage as a standalone component, the companies intend to work together at a system level, ensuring battery technology can be seamlessly integrated with the end user’s subsea equipment. For clients, this provides a single integrated approach to the engineering and management of critical system interfaces, reducing integration complexity and ensuring individual technologies operate effectively as part of the wider subsea architecture.
A particular area of focus will be offshore oil and gas, where operators are increasingly seeking reliable, integrated power solutions to support ageing subsea infrastructure, extended field life and more autonomous operations.

SubCtech brings significant experience in the design and production of rechargeable lithium-ion battery systems for offshore and subsea applications, including systems developed for demanding operating environments and long-duration deployments.
As part of the wider Gabler Group, SubCtech can also draw on complementary maritime and subsea technology capabilities. These include underwater communications and monitoring expertise, creating potential opportunities to combine power, communications and control within increasingly integrated subsea architectures.

The MoU establishes a framework for Verlume and SubCtech to build on their existing collaboration and identify and pursue further opportunities where their combined capabilities can provide technical and commercial advantages to customers.
By bringing together proven energy storage hardware with intelligent power management, communications, controls and end-to-end systems engineering, the companies aim to provide clients with a unified subsea power solution that reduces integration complexity, strengthens system reliability and enables dependable, long-term subsea operations.
