Woodside Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer International Daniel Kalms has announced his intention to leave Woodside Energy.

Mr Kalms has had a distinguished career at Woodside since joining the company in 2001, holding key leadership roles across the company and being closely involved in several of Woodside’s defining milestones. This included leading the Pluto Foundation Project through start-up in 2012 and playing a central role from 2018 to 2020 in preparing the Scarborough Energy Project for a final investment decision, which was taken by the Board in 2021. As a member of Woodside’s Executive Committee, Mr Kalms also led integration activities for Woodside’s merger with BHP Petroleum which became effective in June 2022.

Following the merger with BHP Petroleum, Mr Kalms relocated from Perth, Australia to Houston, Texas and became Executive Vice President Technical Services before assuming his role as EVP and COO International in 2024. Mr Kalms also played a central role in Woodside’s acquisition of Tellurian Inc., in 2024, enabling Woodside to develop the Louisiana LNG Project which will provide critical supplies of US energy to meet demand in international markets.

'Daniel Kalms has had a career of distinction at Woodside and has been central to building Woodside from a primarily Australia-based company to one that now has operations across three continents and which is building a globally significant position in liquefied natural gas and other energy products,' said Woodside CEO Liz Westcott.

'Daniel’s technical expertise, commercial capability and strong leadership have been fundamental to Woodside’s business success and corporate culture. Daniel will leave Woodside with the appreciation of all with whom he has worked over his career. We wish Daniel every success for the future.'

Paa-Joe Akoto-Ampaw, currently Woodside Vice President Gulf of America, has been appointed as Acting EVP and COO International, while a recruitment process is conducted for the EVP and COO role. Mr AkotoAmpaw will join Woodside’s Executive Leadership Team over this period.

'We thank Paa-Joe for assuming this significant leadership position at Woodside. We are extremely well positioned in our International portfolio, with a strong operating business in the Gulf of America and Senegal, and new projects being developed in Louisiana LNG and the Trion deepwater oil project in Mexico, along with continuing evaluation of other significant opportunities,Ms Westcott said.
