Just six months after construction began, SSE is marking the installation of the final turbine at its 17.3MW onshore wind farm construction project in Puglia, Southern Italy.
Turbine installation at the combined Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva sites began in the summer and has been delivered on schedule. The safe and successful installation of the five Siemens Gamesa 132-3.4 MW onshore wind turbines has been overseen on site by SSE Renewables engineers working in close collaboration with technicians from the turbine provider and principal contractor, leading Italian firm Idoka Construzioni.

Around 70 construction roles are being supported at the project at peak delivery, boosting the local economy and supply chain in the Puglia region.
With the final turbine installed, commissioning and testing of turbines will now commence and continue until the site becomes fully operational, which is expected to enter commercial operations in 2026.
Gianluca Mercurio, Country Manager for Italy, SSE Renewables, said:
'We’re delighted to have safely and successfully installed all five turbines at our combined Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva wind farm site in Puglia.
'This is an exciting achievement for our team as it marks an important delivery milestone for our first construction project in Italy.
'We are now looking forward to working closely with our supply chain and contractor partners as we move forward and begin testing and commissioning the wind farm in the months ahead of its target completion in 2026.'
The construction project is being delivered by Parco Eolico Tramontana S.R.L., a wholly owned subsidiary of FTSE 100 listed company SSE plc under SSE Renewables.
