Italy: RWE successful with two onshore wind projects in Italian auction

  • In total 93 MW of onshore wind capacity awarded to RWE
  • Wind farms to be installed in Basilicata and Apulia regions
  • Start of construction planned for second half of 2025, commissioning planned in 2026

Two RWE wind farms were successful in the latest Italian renewables auction: the 45 megawatt (MW) Venusia wind farm located in the province of Potenza, Basilicata region and the 48 MW Serra Palino wind farm located in the province of Foggia, Apulia region. The start of construction is planned for the second half of 2025, with commissioning planned for next year.

RWE Renewables Italia – strong presence in Italian market for renewables

RWE is a key player in the Italian renewables market. The company takes an integrated project approach that incorporates the development, construction and operation as well as marketing of wind farms and solar plants. The company draws on its extensive experience to drive forward its business in Italy. As of today, RWE operates 16 onshore wind farms with a combined installed capacity of 527 MW in the country. With its onshore fleet, RWE supplies around 450,000 Italian households with green electricity every year. In addition RWE recently commissioned its first Italian solar plant Bosco (8.3 MWac) in Sicily. In addition to the soon-to-be-constructed  Venusia and Serra Palino wind farms the company is currently constructing 53 MW Mondonuovo wind farm in Apulia Region and its first commercial scale Agri-PV plants Morcone (9.8 MWac) and Acquafredda (9.3 MWac) in Campania Region.
