Samga expands seismic node fleet following seven game-changing projects in Kazakhstan

The investment brings Samga’s fleet to 35,000 STRYDE nodes and adds a second Nimble System, enabling larger high-density surveys, parallel project delivery and faster turnaround for exploration clients.

Kazakhstan-based seismic geophysical services company Samga Petroleum has invested in 20,000 STRYDE Range+ nodes and a second Nimble acquisition system after completing seven oil and gas and mining projects with the technology over the past two years.

The additional equipment increases Samga’s node inventory to 35,000 STRYDE channels, helping Samga increase field capacity, respond to customer demand and run more high-density seismic programmes without compromising delivery speed or data quality.

The investment comes as Kazakhstan seeks to replenish its oil and gas reserves. In September 2026, the Ministry of Energy reported that approximately 600 billion tenge had been invested in exploration during the previous five years, with 23 further projects planned for 2026-2030. Many are expected to target deeper formations, subsalt plays and underexplored areas, increasing the need for efficient seismic acquisition to reduce subsurface uncertainty.

Samga became the first company to deploy STRYDE technology in Kazakhstan in 2024. Since then, its use of STRYDE’s miniature broadband receivers has enabled denser seismic datasets and more efficient survey delivery.

This approach is particularly valuable across large, logistically complex survey areas. Lightweight nodes can be deployed, retrieved and prepared for reuse more quickly, reducing vehicle movements, handling and field complexity while lowering costs and exposure to operational and safety risks.

For exploration and development teams, the value of higher receiver density extends beyond field efficiency. Denser spatial sampling provides a stronger foundation for noise attenuation, velocity analysis and seismic imaging, helping interpreters resolve subtle faults, structural complexity and smaller geological targets that may influence prospect ranking and well-placement decisions.

On a recent project at Gran Field in western Kazakhstan, Samga combined high-density nodal acquisition with in-field processing to accelerate the delivery of subsurface insights. Using the STRYDE Lens™ in-field processing solution, the team temporarily converted its Nimble system into a remote processing environment, enabling STRYDE geophysicists to process data remotely while acquisition continued. The final migrated 3D seismic volume was delivered within two weeks of the last field recording, allowing the client’s technical team to begin evaluating the subsurface image significantly earlier.

Zhanibek Katrenov, CEO of Samga Petroleum, said: “Over the past two years, we have seen how a different approach to seismic acquisition can improve field efficiency and data quality in Kazakhstan.

“As demand grows, we need to scale without slowing our operations. The STRYDE Nimble System allows us to turn around high channel counts of nodes quickly for redeployment. Expanding our fleet to 35,000 nodes and a second system gives us the capacity to support larger and parallel programmes without compromising quality, safety or turnaround time. This investment strengthens our ability to help clients move more quickly from seismic acquisition to confident exploration and drilling decisions.”

Cameron Grant, Chief Commercial Officer of STRYDE, said: “Repeat investment is a strong endorsement because it reflects proven operational advantages. On multiple projects, Samga’s team has demonstrated how STRYDE technology can improve established working practices and create new opportunities for seismic contractors. We are proud to support the company’s continued expansion in Kazakhstan.”

About STRYDE

STRYDE provides land seismic acquisition technology that makes high-density seismic imaging more accessible and efficient.

Its miniature autonomous nodes and scalable systems support high-quality data acquisition with fewer personnel, vehicles and logistical resources than traditional land seismic surveys.

STRYDE technology is used worldwide across oil and gas, geothermal, CCUS, mining, civil engineering and scientific research applications.

About Samga Petroleum

Samga Petroleum is a Kazakhstan-based geophysical and subsurface services company delivering integrated solutions from seismic programme design and permitting support to high-density 2D/3D acquisition, processing, interpretation and drilling-target support.

Samga combines advanced cableless nodal technology with local field expertise to help operators reduce subsurface uncertainty and make more confident exploration, appraisal and development decisions. The company supports oil and gas, underground gas storage, mining and other subsurface applications across Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

The expanded system will be available for high-density 2D and 3D seismic programmes across Kazakhstan and Central Asia from 2027.
