Aker BP and its partners have completed drilling on the 'Kongeørn' prospect in the Norwegian Sea, 240 kmsd west of Sandnessjøen.
Wildcat well 6507/2-8 is situated in production licence 942, which was part of the Awards in predefined areas (APA) 2017, awarded in March 2018. The well was the second well in this production licence.
Well 6507/2-8 was located on the Dønna Terrace, 4.2 kms southwest of well 6507/2-2 (the Marulk discovery).
Geological information
The primary exploration target for the well was to prove gas in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Garn Formation. The secondary exploration target was to prove gas in Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Tilje Formation.
The well encountered the Garn Formation with a total thickness of 33 metres, of which 24.2 metres was sandstone layers with poor reservoir quality. The Tilje Formation had a total thickness of 45.1 metres, with sandstone layers totalling 16.2 metres with poor reservoir quality.
The well is classified as dry.
Well 6507/2-8 was drilled to a vertical depth of 4255 metres below sea level, and was terminated in the Åre Formation in the Lower Jurassic.
Water depth at the site is 400 metres. The well has been permanently plugged and abandoned.
The wildcat well was drilled using the Deepsea Nordkapp drilling rig.
