Pakistan Petroleum Limited, operator of Shah Bandar Block (2467-16) (63 percent working interest (WI)) along with joint venture partners Mari Petroleum Company (32 percent WI), Sindh Energy Holding Company and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (2.5 percent WI each) has made a gas and condensate discovery at exploration well Jhim East X-1 in District Sujawal, Sindh. This is the second discovery in Shah Bandar Block.
Jhim East X-1 was spud on October 8, 2023 and drilled to a depth of 2,545 m to test the hydrocarbon potential of upper sands of Lower Goru formation. Based on the drilling results and wireline logs, potential hydrocarbon bearing zones were identified. During testing of Lower Goru upper sand (A sand), the well flowed 13.69 MMscfd gas and 236 barrels/ day condensate at wellhead flowing pressure of 2,668 psig at 32 /64" choke. The well is being further evaluated to obtain necessary information about its performance.
The well was drilled and tested by utilizing indigenous expertise. This discovery will add hydrocarbon reserves to reduce the gap between energy supply and demand.
