In future, ENERCON will also produce rotor blades for its top model, the E-175 EP5 E2, in Türkiye. As part of the international market launch of the new turbine model, the manufacturer is setting up a new rotor blade plant in Bergama, Izmir Province. The plant will create 700 jobs. Furthermore, the investment secures employment at regional supply companies.

‘With this rotor blade production site, we are meeting local content requirements for participation in the Turkish tendering system for onshore wind farms’, says ENERCON COO Heiko Juritz. The regulations stipulate that a certain proportion of wind turbine components must be produced in the country itself. Only then will the turbines be considered in government tenders.‍

‘In Bergama, we are continuing our proven localisation strategy and creating reliable conditions to ensure that our customers can participate in government tenders with our new top model’, says Heiko Juritz. ENERCON has been active in Türkiye since the 1990s and is one of the pioneers of the Turkish wind power industry. The company committed to local manufacturing at an early stage.

The E-175 EP5 E2 is ENERCON’s new top model and, with a nominal power of 7.0 MW and a rotor diameter of 175 metres, it is one of the highest-yielding onshore wind turbines in Europe. The E-175 EP5 E2 is also the central pillar of the company’s market strategy and forms the basis for the portfolio of solutions with which ENERCON supports its customers. The new turbine model is in high demand internationally, including in Türkiye: ENERCON only recently signed supply contracts with Turkish customers for a total yield of more than 300 MW.

In its current phase of development, the new plant in Bergama is designed for a production capacity of up to 150 rotor blade sets per year. It will produce primarily for the Turkish market. In addition, the new production site is intended to supply E-175 EP5 E2 rotor blades for wind farms in Eastern and Southern Europe.

‘Türkiye remains one of ENERCON’s most important international strategic target markets’, says Heiko Juritz. ‘Our investment in the manufacturing of E-175 EP5 E2 components is a further sign of our commitment to the Turkish market. We are there for our customers along the entire process chain – from production and sales through to installation and service – so that together we can further drive forward the expansion of onshore wind energy and the energy transition in Türkiye.’

The total power installed by ENERCON in Türkiye amounts to around 4 GW. ENERCON also has its own sales, project management and service organisation in the country.
