Ukrgasvydobuvannya, a 100%-owned subsidiary of Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC, has discovered a promising Mesozoic play in Carpathians in the field that was considered depleted. An appraisal well that flowered during the testing at more than 200 KCM/D , has provided the highest Ukrgasvydobuvannya rate for fields in the western region in the last 20 years.
A new 1,600 m well was drilled by the Ukrburgaz team for the purpose of near-field exploration of the mature field. The highest gas production on the record was achieved due to the application of modern technologies, in particular the Ivan Bogun drilling rig.

'The result of this well and the overall near-field exploration demonstrates the effectiveness of using modern technologies and new approaches to data interpretation. The western region has a great potential for discovering new HC fields, which is confirmed by the results of neighboring countries. Now we are strengthening our activities in this region, in particular, to introduce new technologies and attract investment', Oleg Tolmachev, acting CEO of Ukrgasvydobuvannya, comments.
The well location was defined based on the results of interpretation of new data from previously 3D seismic surveys. Currently, Ukrgasvydobuvannya team is working to expand midstream technological capabilities to increase well productivity.
'Based on the results of geophysical activities, our specialists have identified a bunch of pay horizons that expand the field's prospects for drilling new wells. And the test results will allow to assess reserves of the new deposit. I am grateful to the Carpathian Exploration, UkrNDIGas and Lvivgasvydobuvannya teams, engaged in development and implementation of this project', Maxim Vityk, Director for Exploration and Development of Ukrgasvydobuvannya, said.
