TGS has announced the availability of its CO2 Storage Assessment for the Michigan Basin. Spanning 50 million acres, this comprehensive study provides detailed insights into the region’s geological formations, capacity estimates, and site suitability for carbon sequestration, offering strategic guidance for optimizing carbon storage projects in the Midwest.

The study leverages data from 1,650 wells in Michigan, alongside core data from Western Michigan University, to conduct an in-depth analysis of key geologic formations and their potential for CO2 storage. The assessment features a fully integrated stratigraphic framework, comprehensive petrophysical analysis, and advanced log curve interpretations. Both reservoir quality and sealing integrity are examined—critical for advancing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) initiatives. By identifying viable sites and providing detailed regional mapping or storage properties, the study will equip industry professionals with essential information that enhances their sequestration strategies and supports well-informed decision-making.

Carel Hooijkaas, Executive Vice President at TGS, stated: 'With the completion of the Michigan Basin CO2 Storage Assessment, TGS continues to lead the way in providing data-driven solutions that reduce uncertainty and inform decision-making in carbon storage projects. Our extensive well data library, and unmatched subsurface expertise enable us to offer unparalleled value to stakeholders in the Midwest region and beyond.'

As the carbon storage landscape evolves, TGS remains committed to delivering innovative, high-quality solutions to support the global energy transition. With the completion of this assessment, TGS further solidifies its leadership in CO2 storage evaluation, offering a vital resource for stakeholders aiming to meet their carbon sequestration goals with precision and confidence.
