Lidsø solar park is changing ownership following European Energy’s successful divestment of the project to Alight.

European Energy has completed the sale of Lidsø solar park in Lolland, Denmark, to Alight, a Nordic solar developer and independent power producer. Located at Rødby Havn in Lolland Municipality, Lidsø solar park began construction in the summer of 2024 and is scheduled for commissioning in the summer of 2025. European Energy has not only developed the project but has also secured long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) to ensure stable energy offtake, making it an attractive asset in Denmark’s renewable energy market.

European Energy will continue to oversee the construction of the solar park and will be responsible for its operation once commissioned. European Energy remains actively engaged in Lolland Municipality through ongoing projects, with the potential to contribute to renewable energy production innovation, local development and encouraging outside investment.

'We are pleased to see Alight acquiring Lidsø solar park, a project we have carefully developed and secured with long-term power purchase agreements. Importantly, European Energy remains committed to Lolland Municipality, where we have multiple projects under development. We continue to work closely with the municipality to ensure that renewable energy investments contribute to local employment and attract outside investment,' says Knud Erik Andersen, CEO of European Energy.

Warren Campbell, CEO of Alight, adds: 'Denmark represents an exciting opportunity for Alight. Our acquisition of Lidsø solar park, which European Energy has done a fantastic job developing, will help meet the country’s rising electricity demand and marks just the beginning of our plans to contribute to Denmark’s energy transition. Additional strategic acquisitions and partnerships will play a key role in our expansion.'

The transaction is part of European Energy’s strategy to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy across Denmark and internationally. By developing, constructing, and securing financing for large-scale renewable energy projects, the company continues to drive the energy transition forward.
