Denmark: European Energy grid connects two battery projects totalling 152 MWh in Denmark

20 Jul 2026

  • European Energy has grid connected battery energy storage systems at two sites in Denmark: Stouby (28 MW / 112 MWh) and Agersted (10 MW / 40 MWh).
  •  Both systems are co-located with solar parks, creating hybrid renewable energy assets at each location.
  •  Both projects were developed, engineered, procured, constructed and integrated within a year.
  •  The projects form part of European Energy’s strategy of developing hybrid renewable energy assets that combine electricity generation with on-site storage.

European Energy has grid connected battery storage systems at two sites in Denmark. A 28 MW / 112 MWh system at Stouby and a 10 MW / 40 MWh system at Agersted have both entered operation, bringing the combined battery capacity across the two parks to 38 MW / 152 MWh.

Agersted: 10 MW / 40 MWh battery storage integrated with existing solar park

At Agersted, the 10 MW / 40 MWh storage system has been integrated with an existing 31 MW solar park – operational since 2022 The development, engineering, procurement, construction and integration of the battery system was carried out by European Energy within a year. The system is designed to provide grid services including frequency regulation and balancing support, storing electricity when solar production exceeds demand and discharging it when needed.

'Adding a 10 MW / 40 MWh battery system to an existing solar park and bringing it into operation within a year is another strong achievement by the project team,' says Poul Jacobsen, EVP and Head of EPC at European Energy.

'The project required close coordination across engineering, civil works, electrical installation and system integration. Completing the work within this timeframe demonstrates the maturity of our construction organisation and our experience in delivering increasingly complex renewable energy projects.'

Stouby: 28 MW / 112 MWh battery storage co-located with 88 MW solar park

At Stouby, the 28 MW / 112 MWh storage system is co-located with European Energy’s 88 MW solar park – which entered into operations in September 2024 – combining generation and storage behind a shared grid connection. The commissioning forms part of European Energy’s strategy of increasing the value of its renewable energy portfolio through hybridisation — integrating battery storage with generation assets to improve operational flexibility, unlock additional revenue streams, and strengthen the long-term investment case for institutional investors.

'Institutional investors are increasingly looking for renewable energy assets that combine stable production with operational flexibility and multiple revenue streams,' says Thorvald Spanggaard, EVP and Head of Project Development at European Energy. 'Hybrid projects meet that demand by improving both asset quality and long-term resilience, making them increasingly attractive investment opportunities'

Expanding battery storage across Europe and Australia

European Energy is expanding its battery storage portfolio across Europe and Australia as part of its strategy to develop integrated renewable energy assets. Both the Stouby and Agersted installations reflect the company’s approach of pairing electricity generation with on-site storage to create assets designed to meet the requirements of long-term infrastructure investors. To date, European Energy has grid connected 96.75 MW of battery storage systems in Denmark providing more than 375 MWh of energy storage – and will soon inaugurate its first operational system in Lithuania.
