- 22.8 megawatt wind farm near Papenhagen to be commissioned in mid-2026
- RWE wind farm to supply green electricity for around 20,000 households
RWE is expanding its onshore wind portfolio in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania by 22.8 MW.
After winning the auction organised by the Federal Network Agency at the end of last year, the company has now started construction work. RWE is building four wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 22.8 megawatts (MW) near Papenhagen, close to the small town of Grimmen in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen. Commissioning is scheduled for mid-2026. Together, they will supply around 20,000 households with green electricity. RWE is building another wind turbine nearby on behalf of a project partner.
Katja Wünschel, CEO RWE Renewables Europa & Austrailia: 'We are continuing to accelerate the expansion of wind energy in Germany and are expanding our wind fleet in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Local communities also benefit. We voluntarily pay 0.2 cents per kilowatt hour produced to local communities. This means an estimated annual income of up to 130,000 euros for the wind farm near Papenhagen.'
Green growth in the domestic market
