Medco Energi, through its subsidiary PT Medco E & P Rimau, has successfully made a hydrocarbon discovery at the West Kalabau-1 exploration well, located in the Rimau Block, South Sumatra, Indonesia. This positive result further strengthens MedcoEnergi’s commitment to sustaining Indonesia’s energy production by optimizing the potential of its assets.
The West Kalabau-1 well was drilled to a total depth of approx. 3,220 ft, targeting the Baturaja Formation, a proven reservoir in the region. Formation evaluation and initial analysis confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons, providing a strong basis for further development planning.
Ronald Gunawan, President Director of PT Medco E & P Indonesia, said, 'The successful discovery at West Kalabau-1 highlights the untapped potential that remains within Indonesia’s mature basins. This achievement reflects MedcoEnergi’s continued focus on delivering safe, efficient, and responsible exploration and production activities. We will work closely with SKK Migas to further evaluate the commercial potential of this discovery." MedcoEnergi, together with SKK Migas, will proceed with additional well testing and technical evaluations to further assess the potential size and commercial viability of the discovery, which will guide future development activities'.
