Heerema Marine Contractors has successfully completed the offshore foundation installation campaign for the Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, safely delivering the work well within the project schedule.

Working for the Equinor-Polenergia joint venture, Heerema installed the foundations for 100 wind turbines and two offshore substations over a four-month offshore campaign, supporting the development of one of Poland's largest offshore wind projects.

Using their semi-submersible crane vessel Thialf, supported by a fleet of approximately 35 support vessels, Heerema safely installed 100 monopiles, 100 transition pieces and two offshore substation jackets. The campaign combined large-scale offshore operations with a complex logistics program involving multiple fabrication yards, ports, marine contractors and offshore work fronts.

Delivering through coordination and collaboration

The successful execution of the campaign relied on close cooperation between Heerema, vessel owners, subcontractors, marine service providers, fabricators and project teams onshore and offshore. Managing the continuous flow of foundations, installation vessels, crews and equipment required detailed planning and coordination throughout the installation season.

At peak activity, Heerema managed and operated approximately fifteen vessels simultaneously across the project area, supporting transportation, marine coordination, noise mitigation, crew transfer, grouting, bolting and other critical offshore activities. This integrated approach enabled the company to maintain a highly efficient installation sequence while upholding the highest standards of safety and operational performance.

Marcel de Nooijer, CEO of Heerema Marine Contractors, said: 'The completion of this offshore installation campaign is about more than delivering 100 foundations and two offshore substations. Baltyk 2 and 3 will become an important source of renewable electricity for Poland, supporting both the country's energy transition and long-term energy security. We are proud to have contributed our offshore expertise to a project of this scale. My thanks go to Equinor, Polenergia, our project partners, subcontractors and offshore crews whose dedication and teamwork made this achievement possible.'

About the Baltyk 2 & 3 offshore wind farms

The Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 offshore wind farms are being developed by Equinor and Polenergia and will play an important role in expanding Poland's renewable energy capacity. The completion of the foundation installation campaign marks a significant step forward for the project. Heerema will return to the Baltic Sea this winter to install the Baltyk 2 Offshore Substation, followed by the Baltyk 3 Offshore Substation in summer 2027.
