- Enoch Hill is the second Scottish onshore wind farm constructed by RWE in Scotland in 2026, bringing a combined total of 106 megawatts of new generation capacity online
RWE, one of Scotland’s leading clean power generators, has confirmed completion of construction of its latest Scottish onshore wind farm, Enoch Hill, located near New Cumnock in East Ayrshire.
Commissioning of the turbines was completed in May this year, when Enoch Hill became the second new onshore wind farm to be constructed by RWE in Scotland in 2026 – it followed hot on the heels of Camster II in Caithness, which was completed in April. Together, both projects add 106 megawatts (MW) of new, clean and secure generation capacity to RWE’s existing operational portfolio in Scotland – the company currently operates nine onshore wind farms with a combined maximum installed capacity of 229MW.
The 70 MW Enoch Hill project was consented in September 2019, with construction starting in June 2023 and first electricity generated in April 2026. The project consists of a mix of Nordex’s N133/4.8 turbines and its N117/3600 Delta4000 turbines. The wind farm will be capable of providing enough electricity to power around 68,000 typical UK homes.

Throughout the construction of the project, RWE and its Principal Contractors Farrans and Nordex, placed a strong emphasis on using the local supply chain. Over 38% of Farrans’ construction spend was directed towards suppliers located within 20 miles of the site, and a further 23% of spend went to suppliers within 50 miles. 68% of all subcontracts were awarded to local suppliers, with more than 26% of all subcontracted spend retained in the region. Nordex played an equally important role, supporting regional investment by contracting local companies in key functions, including MW Hir, Ayrshire; The Bacas, Dalmellington and Maneight Farm, Cumnock.

The project expects to deliver long-term local benefits during its operating lifetime, from the payment of local business rates, opportunities for Scottish businesses to participate in operations and maintenance activities, support for local employment and skills development.
In addition, the wind farm has unlocked a new £10.5 million community fund which focuses exclusively on New Cumnock during the first five years. RWE appointed Foundation Scotland to manage the fund during the early stages as a direct response to public consultation.
