An innovative operator demonstrating excellence in deploying new technology plus a contractor with an outstanding track record for managing multiple offshore structures are the winners announced at OEUK’s 2025 Excellence in Decommissioning Awards ceremony yesterday (November 25).
The top-performing companies were announced at a gala dinner as part of OEUK’s annual Decommissioning Conference held in St Andrews, sponsored by Kent. Presented in recognition of companies that are setting new standards in the sector, the award criteria can cover any aspect including project execution, design, innovation, HSE, cost performance and contribution to the energy transition. The winners were announced at a Gala dinner, sponsored by Well-Safe Solutions.
In the operator category sponsored by PDi Ltd, EnQuest set an exemplary benchmark for safety and cost performance, delivering its decommissioning programme ahead of schedule and under budget, with no significant incidents reported. It decommissioned wells at 20-25% below the benchmark set by the North Sea Transition Authority, demonstrating its industry-leading efficiency. The introduction of innovative technologies played a crucial role in boosting project efficiencies, reducing costs, and lowering operational risks. The rapid down-manning post-campaign further highlighted operational excellence, while the EnQuest’s dedication to transparently sharing best practices with peers demonstrates a clear commitment to elevating standards across the sector
In the supply chain category, sponsored by the North Sea Transition Authority, ABLE was recognised for its steadfast commitment to safety and outstanding recycling practices. The company’s management of multiple offshore structures—including the notable 31,000-tonne Brent Charlie topside, accomplished using an innovative ‘load-in by skidding’ technique - has established a new standard for operational excellence. Furthermore, ABLE’s facility serves as a leading recycling centre and a key wind turbine marshalling yard, highlighting its significant contribution to advancing the energy transition.
Commenting on the awards, OEUK’s Head of?Decommissioning, Ricky Thomson, said:
'These prestigious awards recognise the remarkable individuals and organisations whose dedication and achievements have propelled the UK’s offshore decommissioning sector to new heights.
