Cearn Solar Farm, a subsidiary of Telis Energy UK, has announced the early-stage development of Cearn Solar Farm, a solar energy and battery energy storage facility located within the Vale of White Horse District, Oxfordshire. The project represents an advancement in the UK’s renewable energy efforts, supporting the government’s net zero targets and bolstering the nation’s energy security with clean, home-grown renewable electricity.
Spanning approximately 2,800 acres, the proposed project has a grid connection offer of up to 500 megawatts (MW) of clean, renewable electricity. The project also includes plans for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to store surplus energy, ensuring a resilient and reliable energy supply during periods of peak demand.

Cearn Solar Farm is classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project under the Planning Act 2008. An application for a development consent order (DCO) to build and operate the project will be made to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. The DCO application will be reviewed by the Planning Inspectorate, who will provide a recommendation to the Secretary of State for a final decision.

Community engagement remains at the heart of the project’s development process. With land surveys and assessments already underway, Cearn Solar Farm is undertaking early engagement through a series of design workshops, known as Co:Design, with technical stakeholders, local councillors and parish councils. These workshops will help shape the project’s design and approach at a formative stage, ahead of a wider public consultation planned for early 2027.
