Offshore Energies UK (OEUK), the leading representative body for the UK offshore energy sector, has announced the speakers for its brand new Decarbonisation Conference

Amongst the lineup are government officials from the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero – Sam Reed, Head of Scope Expansion, UK Emissions Trading and Ashley Ibbett, Director General for Energy Infrastructure

The event, sponsored by Bluestreak CO2, and supported by ABB and Elemental Energies, will be held at the P&J Live in Aberdeen on October 12.

Featuring a range of sessions, panels, and an exhibition, the event aims to open a dialogue on the challenges and opportunities presented by decarbonising the offshore oil and gas sector.

OEUK’s flagship annual Emissions Insight Report will be launched during the opening session, revealing the sector’s emissions performance and providing a focal point for discussions.

Attendees and speakers will have the chance to discuss the role they can play, inform the debate, and explore how the offshore energy sector can shape – and lead – the UK’s shift to a low carbon future.

OEUK HSE and operations director Mark Wilson said:

'Decarbonising our energy system is one of the biggest challenges of our time. Delivering the UK’s climate goals will require action by industry, supportive energy policies from governments, and suitable and sufficient regulation, together driving an unprecedented programme of investment.

'Many of the low-hanging opportunities have been seized already, such as operational changes and improvements in venting and flaring – so the real challenge now is halving our emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2050.

'That can only if we can collaborate, share ideas and expertise, and fully deliver the emissions targets set out in the North Sea Transition Deal. This conference aims to provide a platform to do just that.'
