Leading global energy solutions company, OEG, has become an approved WTSR training provider through an agreement with the Energy Institute (EI) to deliver Wind Turbine Safety Rules (WTSR) training at its dedicated facility in Bootle, Merseyside (UK).

As demand for skilled wind technicians continues to rise, the OEG Training Centre has expanded its portfolio of industry-accredited courses to help meet the sector's evolving workforce requirements. The hub now delivers more than 40 accredited courses across rope access, emergency response and renewable-sector competencies, and has trained more than 1,500 individuals so far this year alone.

The WTSR course equips learners with the knowledge and practical understanding needed to work safely on or around wind turbine systems. It covers safe systems of work, roles and responsibilities within turbine safety frameworks, documentation and control measures, hazard identification and risk mitigation, as well as operational communication between duty holders.

Gary Paterson, OEG’s Head of Training, said: 'As wind projects scale, access to high-quality, industry-recognised training is becoming even more vital to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and by competent personnel. Employers increasingly expect technicians to arrive onsite already certified and aligned with the industry's safety requirements, and we're fully committed to supporting that requirement.

'As WTSR certification has become one of the key requirements for many roles across the wind industry, including turbine construction, commissioning, operations and maintenance. This approval means we can now support the wind workforce with training that meets the industry's standards.'

The EI is a global professional body for the energy sector, delivering good practice, information and guidance, and training and qualifications. It is also the custodian of the Wind Turbine Safety Rules (WTSR).

OEG's Group Head of Electrical, Aamir Shahzad, who chaired the Wind Operational Safety Rules Group (W-OSRG) from 2019 to 2024, remains an active member of the group and its Steering Committee, and played a leading role in the evolution of the WTSR before leading the development of the Wind Turbine System Safety Rules (WTSSR).

Aamir Shahzad, OEG's Group Head of Electrical, added: 'Having been closely involved in the ongoing evolution of the WTSR and leading the development of the WTSSR, it's particularly rewarding to see OEG become an approved provider of WTSR training. Industry standards only deliver value when they're supported by high-quality, consistent training that equips technicians with the competence and confidence to apply them safely in the field. As the wind sector continues to grow, investing in that capability is essential to maintaining the highest standards of operational safety.'

Alongside the expansion of its training offering, OEG has refreshed its training website, streamlining the booking experience so individuals and employers can find the qualifications they need across the energy sector.
