The leading trade body Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) has responded to the launch of the Conservative Party’s 2024 General Election manifesto.

OEUK is an apolitical organisation that represents over 400 members across the UK’s energy mix, from oil and gas to wind, hydrogen and carbon capture technologies.

OEUK’s own industry manifesto is calling for all parties to choose a homegrown energy transition that safeguards jobs, boosts energy security and drives economic growth.

Jenny Stanning, external relations director, Offshore Energies UK comments:

'The Conservative Party’s manifesto launched today at Silverstone, the home of motor racing. We are in a global race for energy investment and we say to all parties that a homegrown transition gives us the best chance of winning.

'The Conservative manifesto today addresses jobs, energy security and economic growth, which are important issues for all sectors, households and people around the UK. The offshore energy industry is also firmly committed to playing a leading role in meeting our net zero commitment by 2050 or sooner, decarbonising offshore energy production to power homes and businesses across the breadth of the UK.

'A successful homegrown energy transition means protecting and boosting UK jobs, growing the UK economy and reaching our climate goals in a way that supports UK communities. We do that by making the UK an irresistible place to do energy business.

'OEUK will work with all parties, in government and opposition on behalf of our members.'

Soon to be published on 18 June, OEUK’s Economy & People Report is the definitive annual account of the sector’s economic contribution and prospects in this General Election year. It offers integrated insights into the economic contributions and workforce dynamics of the offshore energy sector, pivotal for the UK’s energy future.

Join OEUK for an insightful series of breakfast events across the UK, where the report will launch to key regional audiences.
