Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) has welcomed the selection of Equinor and Gwynt Glas to deliver floating windfarms in the Celtic Sea, calling it a positive step towards scaling up the UK’s floating wind sector and advancing the energy transition.

Commenting on the announcement, OEUK Sustainability and Policy Director Mike Tholen said:

'We welcome the selection of Equinor and Gwynt Glas to deliver floating windfarms in the Celtic Sea. Floating wind is no longer just a concept, it’s scaling up, and the UK is well placed to lead.

'This nascent technology is a natural fit for the UK’s existing oil & gas supply chain, drawing on established skills, vessels, and infrastructure. It also enables access to deeper waters with stronger, more consistent wind and fewer conflicts with other sea users.

'To turn this opportunity into long-term leadership, the UK must now scale up its supply chain, upgrade grid infrastructure, invest in ports and fabrication yards, and strengthen policy frameworks to attract the essential investment needed.'
