'Faster grid connections are critical to delivering the UK’s energy transition and energy security. Building the grid infrastructure to meet the growing electricity demand is central to tackling the affordability crisis.
'Across the country, offshore wind, carbon capture, hydrogen and other low-carbon projects are ready to invest, but too many are held back by long waits to connect to the network. Without the infrastructure to move power from where it is generated to where it is needed, those projects can’t deliver the lower bills, growth and jobs that households and businesses need.
'Industry needs clear signals on how projects will be prioritised and connected to the grid and for GB Grid to be effective, it will also need to be co-ordinated with reform to the connection process and with network companies’ existing plans such as the Strategic Spatial Energy Plan (SEEP) and the Centralised Strategic Network Plan (CSNP).
'Clear, long-term signals and effective coordination will be essential to provide industry with the certainty needed to plan and invest.
'Getting this right will help projects in every region, from Scotland to the North Sea coast and beyond, connect sooner and keep the UK competitive for energy investment.'
