Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) has responded to the Government’s Warm Homes Plan launched today to upgrade the nation’s homes.
OEUK energy policy director Enrique Cornejo said:
'It’s important that the Government has recognised consumer demand for energy is key to defining our energy future.
'While solar and heat pumps are important to enable the transition, today oil and gas still meet around 75% of the UK’s total energy demand, and more than 24 million homes rely on gas boilers.
'In Davos this week the Chancellor repeated that the UK needs oil and gas for decades to come.
'So as we scale up renewables, the choice is not whether we use oil and gas, but whether we produce it at home with lower emissions and higher standards, or import more from overseas at greater cost to consumers, jobs and energy security.'
