These projects form a critical part of the UK’s East Coast Cluster, aiming to deliver low carbon power and carbon capture, transportation and storage infrastructure for the region.

Worley Consulting has been chosen to continue delivering Lender’s Technical Advisor (LTA) services for the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) and Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power).

NEP is the CO2 transportation and storage provider to carbon capture projects across Teesside and the Humber in North-East England, while NZT Power aims to become the world’s first gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage.

This builds on Worley Consulting’s existing involvement in supporting both projects as LTA to reach financial close and will now continue in this role as the projects move into execution phase.

A dedicated team, based in London and The Hague, initially supported both projects over a 30-month period, carrying out detailed technical due diligence on behalf of the lending banks and working closely with project shareholders to gather and analyze project data. This work provided critical support to both project shareholders and the lenders, helping to inform investment decisions and secure the funding needed to move the projects forward.

Separate teams dedicated to NEP and NZT Power will oversee progress through detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and operational phases. Throughout this multi-year engagement, our subject matter experts will conduct regular site visits and stakeholder meetings to support progress reporting and help identify any potential risks or delays.

Together, NEP and NZT Power form a critical part of the UK’s most advanced low carbon power, carbon capture, transportation, and storage projects:

  • NEP is developing onshore and offshore infrastructure needed to transport CO2 from carbon capture projects across Teesside and the Humber – collectively known as the East Coast Cluster – to secure storage under the North Sea. NEP has been granted the first Carbon Dioxide Transport and Storage License in the UK under the Transportation and Storage Regulatory Investment (TRI) regime.
  • NZT Power aims to be the world’s first gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage, providing flexible, low carbon power to the UK grid. Once operational, the combined cycle gas turbine electricity generating station could produce up to 742 megawatts of flexible, dispatchable low carbon power. Up to two million tonnes of CO2 per year will be captured at the plant, and then transported to secure subsea storage sites via infrastructure provided by NEP.

Steve Whittall, President, Worley Consulting EMEA & APAC, commented, 'We’re pleased to continue supporting these important projects through our role as LTA. Our work over the past few years has focused on providing clear, objective technical input to help reach financial close. We’re looking forward to continuing our partnership as the projects move into delivery.'

Ian Hunter, Managing Director, Net Zero Teesside Power, also shared, 'Worley Consulting has played an important role in making this project a reality. As the project progresses into the execution phase, we look forward to delivering on our ambition to create and support thousands of jobs whilst generating flexible, dispatchable low carbon power for the UK.'

When both projects are completed, they are expected to significantly enhance the UK’s lower carbon energy capabilities by reducing carbon emissions and improving national energy security by providing flexible power solutions. The two projects have an expected start-up in 2028.
