Qair UK, operating through Green Switch Capital, has secured consent for the Rogerhill Solar and Battery Energy Storage System in South Lanarkshire.
Consent was granted by Scottish Ministers through the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit on 30 July 2026. With a solar capacity of 98 MW, Rogerhill is understood to be the largest solar farm to receive planning consent in Scotland to date.
Combining solar generation and battery storage
The project will combine large-scale solar generation with a 100 MW battery energy storage system, which will store electricity and release it when it is most valuable to the grid.
Located across approximately 136 hectares of non-prime agricultural land at Rogerhill Farm, near Blackwood and Kirkmuirhill, the project represents an important addition to Scotland’s growing renewable energy infrastructure.
Once operational, Rogerhill is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to meet the equivalent annual needs of approximately 28,675 homes and avoid more than 40,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Developed with careful consideration
A comprehensive range of technical and environmental matters was assessed during the consenting process. These included landscape and visual impact, ecology and biodiversity, archaeology and cultural heritage, flood risk and drainage, transport, noise, battery safety, and glint and glare.
Qair worked with a team of specialist advisers throughout the development and consenting process, including SLR Consulting and Natural Power.
Supporting the local community
As Rogerhill moves into its next stage of development, Qair will continue to engage with local residents, community representatives and other stakeholders.
Qair is committed to ensuring the project delivers lasting benefits for the surrounding area, including prioritising local contractors where possible and providing a community benefits package.
Further detailed plans, including measures relating to construction traffic and site management, will be developed and agreed ahead of construction.
