Cheshire West and Chester Council planning committee have consented a solar farm that will generate enough renewable energy for up to 5,000 homes. The 15MW Chads Solar Farm will be located north of Cheshire in Tushingham, and has been developed by Renewable Connections, one of the UK’s leading solar and battery energy storage developers.
The planning application, which had a positive recommendation from the planning officer, was approved by the Council’s planning committee. Renewable Connections submitted the application following consultation with both the community and statutory consultees. The proposal incorporates a new wetland area designed to improve the condition and long-term resilience of the peatland on site and incorporates significant biodiversity net gains.
Jonathan Plumb, Chief Operating Officer at Renewable Connections, said: 'Chads Solar Farm will generate enough clean energy to power up to 5,000 homes. The project will improve energy stability and security in Cheshire and the UK, displacing significant amounts of CO2 over its lifetime.

Their feedback has been integral to shaping the final project design which will deliver benefits to the environment and wider community, including exceptional biodiversity net gains.”
The site proposed for Chads Solar Farm comprises approximately 28 hectares of land. The solar panels will be installed in rows which run east to west through the site. The rows will be tilted towards the south to capture the maximum amount of solar irradiation possible. The project will be delivered in partnership with European Energy UK.
