Commenting on Reform UK’s announcement that it would end financial support for future renewable energy projects, RenewableUK's Executive Director of Policy Ana Musat said:
'Every recent opinion poll shows that the vast majority of people support the development of renewable energy. New wind and solar farms are not only driving new jobs and investment into places like the Humber, Teesside and Scotland, but generating more power in our own country will ultimately reduce our reliance on gas imports, the price of which is determined by international markets and events. Building new renewable energy projects is the best way to keep bills as low as possible in the future.
'The UK should be proud to be a global leader in clean power. Renewables now generate more than half of the UK's electricity. Our onshore and offshore wind industries employ 55,000 people and this is set to double by 2030. Every year our cutting-edge clean energy sector attracts billions in private investment to the UK. The wind industry supply chain has grown to almost 2,000 companies, located across more than 70 parliamentary constituencies throughout the country. We're creating fresh opportunities for people to find work in the innovative renewable technologies - including former oil and gas workers, and people in coastal communities who are finding new careers in offshore wind'.
