200 MW / 400 MWh Windyhill BESS marks the first project within Revera's £500 million Scottish BESS portfolio to start construction

Revera Energy, a global independent energy infrastructure platform backed by global investment firm Carlyle, today marked the start of construction on Windyhill, a 200 MW / 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System ('BESS') in Bearsden, Scotland. Windyhill represents the first project in Revera's Scottish BESS portfolio to move into construction, with the company on track to have mobilisation underway across a full gigawatt of storage capacity in Scotland by the end of 2026.

Windyhill reached financial close in February 2026, advancing from close to construction within eight months. The project's technology partner is GE Vernova, with Mitie and OCU serving as delivery partners on site. Danske Commodities will provide route-to-market services once the asset is operational, with commercial operations targeted for the first  quarter of 2028.

'Today marks a defining milestone for Revera in Scotland,' said Ron Kiecana, Acting Head of Revera UK and Operating Partner at Carlyle. 'Windyhill is the first of our Scottish battery storage assets to reach construction, and it reflects the caliber and dedication of the team that got us here. I could not be prouder of what this group has built together, and I'm just as excited for what lies ahead as we work toward a full gigawatt of storage under construction across Scotland by year's end.'

Windyhill is the first of three battery storage assets in Revera's Scottish portfolio, alongside Hunterston (400 MW / 800 MWh) and Kincardine (400 MW / 800 MWh). Together, the three projects represent nearly 1 GW / 2 GWh of capacity and more than £500 million in investment, supporting Scotland's transition to a more flexible, renewables driven grid.

Revera also recognised the contributions of landowner Sandy Paul and Bearsden Council in bringing the project to this milestone.
