The Scottish Government has unveiled its draft climate action plan, outlining how it intends to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.
Climate Action Secretary Gillian Martin told MSPs that Scotland was already being affected by 'flooding, heatwaves and wildfires' and said parliament had to act.
The plan recommits to phasing out new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, decarbonising building heat systems by 2045, expanding woodlands, and accelerating peatland restoration.
Martin said there was 'massive untapped potential' in renewable energy but stressed the need for a 'just transition' to support oil and gas workers.
Opposition MSPs accused ministers of 'rehashing existing SNP policies' and providing 'no clarity' on how the 2045 target would be met.
Friends of the Earth Scotland’s Caroline Rance said the 'dreadful plan' would 'barely scratch the surface' of what was required to tackle the climate crisis.
