SeAH Wind has commenced commercial production for its inaugural project, delivering monopile foundations for Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm.

This milestone was marked by the cutting of the first steel plates - an essential first step in the manufacturing process of monopile foundations. This signifies the beginning of operations at SeAH Wind’s flagship facility on Teesside, the first bespoke UK purpose built factory for XXL monopile foundations dedicated to the offshore wind industry.

The advance manufacturing process will involve a series of complex, high-precision operations including plate preparation, rolling, welding, non-destructive testing, coating, and final assembly. The finished monopiles, some of which will measure over 100 metres in length and weigh more than 2,000 tonnes, are essential components in connecting the Offshore Wind Turbine to the seabed

Chris Sohn, CEO at SeAH Wind, said: 'This is a monumental occasion for SeAH Wind. Three years ago this month, we broke ground on this site with a bold vision to become a leader in the offshore wind industry. To now reach the stage of starting commercial production is a testament to the incredible dedication, innovation, and hard work of our entire team.

This milestone not only marks a significant step forward for the company, but also demonstrates the success of inward investment in the UK. We are proud to be creating skilled jobs, supporting local companies, and helping deliver the UK’s green energy transition.'

SeAH Wind will manufacture and supply monopile foundations for Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm, located approximately 120 km off the Norfolk Coast in the North Sea. Upon completion, it will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm powering over 3 million UK homes.

The launch of production at SeAH Wind’s Teesside facility reinforces the UK’s position as a global leader in Offshore Wind, and highlights the value of strategic industrial investment in building a low-carbon future.
