Aberdeen-based video production and animation company Signal has completed a major health, safety and environment film project for Ithaca Energy, creating a suite of online induction tools for workers travelling to the company’s North Sea assets.

Named ‘Green Hats’, after the colour of hard hats worn by new recruits on their first offshore trips, the project was designed to reduce the need for repeated in-person training, consolidate Ithaca’s safety policies and give personnel a consistent, engaging introduction before mobilisation.

Signal delivered 18 films hosted on a bespoke e-learning tool. The work included asset-specific offshore filming, a drama-based pre-deployment film shot at NHV’s heliport, messages from Ithaca’s Executive Management Team and OIMs, and a bespoke 3D animation using the theme of a board game to explain Ithaca Energy’s safety culture.

The project began in summer 2025, with an initial pilot package for the Alba Northern platform delivered by Christmas 2025. Signal then expanded production across Ithaca’s wider asset base, reviewing existing HSE materials, training manuals, booklets and presentations to create a unified set of customised films.

Ithaca Energy Logistics Manager Denise Lovie said, 'The Green Hats project was about much more than creating an induction package. We wanted to provide personnel with a consistent, engaging and high-quality introduction to our safety culture before they ever stepped offshore. Signal understood that vision from the outset.'

In total, Signal’s crews completed 29 days of filming, including 23 days offshore, alongside a further 48 days of editing.

Signal Managing Director Jamie Baikie said, 'Signal had plenty of experience on similar projects, but this was certainly the most involved. At the time, it was also the largest single project the company had secured in its 15-year history.'

Creative Director Mark Turner added, 'Signal is so grateful to Ithaca for trusting the team with this important project. It was logistically and creatively challenging but will ultimately help protect the lives of workers offshore. That's an achievement to be proud of.'

Denise Lovie said the finished resource would support safety, improve efficiency and deliver a consistent experience for everyone coming to work on Ithaca’s installations.
