UK: United Infrastructure expands Scottish operations with New Alness office to support SSEN Transmission

United Infrastructure has officially opened its new office in Alness, marking a significant milestone in the company's commitment to supporting our major investment in the north of Scotland’s electricity network.  

The new Highlands base establishes a permanent presence in the region as part of United Infrastructure's continued growth and expansion into Scotland’s power transmission and distribution sector, strengthening project delivery capability and enabling continued support for local communities.  

The office will play a key role in supporting the delivery of critical proposed power infrastructure projects across the Highlands and beyond in partnership with us. This investment reflects United Infrastructure’s long-term commitment to Scotland and its ambition to help deliver the resilient power networks needed to support the UK's transition to a cleaner, electrified future. 

The opening event was attended by United Infrastructure's senior leadership team and representatives from SSEN Transmission. Guests took part in site visits to view progress on works associated with the Accelerating Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) programme, which is playing a vital role in delivering the network infrastructure required to support Britain's electrification ambitions. 

As part of the event, catering was provided by GroForYou, a local social enterprise operating from its newly opened Community Innovation Campus in Tain. The inclusion of GroForYou demonstrates United Infrastructure's commitment to creating meaningful social value alongside the delivery of infrastructure projects. This coincides with United Infrastructure signing of the Developing the Young Workforce Employer Pledge and joining the Inverness Chamber of Commerce. The company is focused on ensuring its presence in the Highlands generates lasting benefits for local communities through economic investment, employment opportunities, skills development, and support for community organisations. 

United Infrastructure was also grateful for the opportunity to welcome guests from The Highland Council, local councillors, businesses, third-sector organisations, and community groups.

Sandie Lengden, Programme Director, SSEN Transmission, said: 'We're delighted to celebrate the opening of United Infrastructure's new office in Alness, supporting our significant investment in the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland as we unlock renewable energy and support our clean power ambitions. Our new economic impact report highlights the scale of the opportunity presented by investment in new clean energy infrastructure for the Highlands, including spending up to £2bn with Highland-based businesses and support for almost 3,000 jobs.'

The Alness office will act as a strategic hub for United Infrastructure's growing activities across Scotland, supporting project delivery teams and strengthening engagement with local stakeholders, supply chain partners, and communities. 

The expansion underlines United Infrastructure's ambition to play a leading role in supporting the UK's power infrastructure requirements and delivering the networks needed to achieve net zero targets.
