- Combined projects could power up to 321,369 homes a year
- Up to 47 turbines with a potential generating capacity of around 425 MW
- Community feedback and environmental studies will help shape the design
If approved, Chatteris Wind Farm, to the south of Chatteris, could generate up to 126MW, while Redmere Wind Farm, near Shippea Hill, could generate up to 303MW. Combined, the two sites could generate enough electricity to power up to 321,369 homes per year.
Each project will have a separate planning application, and communities within 3km of the sites will receive a letter inviting them to drop-in sessions with Vattenfall’s project team in October.
Vattenfall is introducing the projects together because some local communities and representatives may have an interest in both.
Vattenfall will deliver at least a 10% biodiversity net gain during the lifetime of the wind farms. This commitment will be developed in more detail once environmental studies have been completed. The sites are also expected to create new jobs, support the local supply chain and contribute to the economy through business rates alongside community benefit funding.
Drop-in events are being held with communities so they can meet the project team at this early stage and ask any questions they may have. Letters will be delivered to local residents in the coming days inviting them to attend. The events will be held on:
- Tuesday 13th of October, 4pm to 8pm, at Feltwell Royal British Legion Hall, Long Lane, Feltwell
- Wednesday 14th of October, 4pm to 8pm, at Mepal Village Hall, School Lane, Mepal
- Thursday 15th of October, 4pm to 8pm, at Littleport Leisure Community Centre, Camel Road, Littleport.
No registration is necessary to attend.
Further events will follow in 2027, when more detailed design information, including visualisations from local viewpoints will be available.
