Cheshire West and Chester Council planning committee have consented a solar farm that will generate enough renewable energy for up to 5,000 homes. The 15MW Chads Solar Farm will be located north of Cheshire in Tushingham, and has been developed by Renewable Connections, one of the UK’s leading solar and battery energy storage developers.

US: Equinor brings its largest energy storage project online in the US
East Point Energy, a wholly owned Equinor company, has completed construction and started operations at Citrus Flatts, a 100 MW/200 MWh energy storage facility in Harlingen, Texas. With this Equinor has put five battery storage facilities into commercial production in four years. Citrus Flatts is East Point’s second operational project, following the start-up of the 10 MW/20 MWh Sunset Ridge facility last year.

UK: GEL set to deliver Europe’s first ‘technical grade’ lithium carbonate on a commercial scale
Geothermal Engineering Ltd (GEL) has announced a major technological milestone in the production of lithium onshore in the UK. In a European first, independent analysis has shown that GEL’s lithium carbonate produced from deep geothermal brine now exceeds the 99.3% purity specification and can be classified as ‘technical grade’ material. This means that it meets the purity requirements for battery producers and provides GEL with a direct route to market as the lithium carbonate does not have to be further refined before onward sale.

EnQuest announces results for the six months ended 30 June 2026
EnQuest reported a net loss of $39.9 million for the six months ended June 30, 2026, a significant improvement from the $173.5 million loss in the same period of 2025, driven by a 9% increase in production to 41,544 Boepd and a 31% rise in cash generated from operations to $281.4 million. The company also announced transformational acquisitions in Malaysia, which are on track to complete by December 31, 2026, and are expected to more than double production.

Venezuela: Eni signs strategic contract in Venezuela and becomes Operator of the super giant Junín-5 oil field
Eni and PDVSA signed the 'Contrato de Participación Productiva de Hidrocarburos' (CPPH) relating to the development of the Junín 5 giant oil field, located onshore in the Orinoco Belt. The CPPH, which has a duration of 25 years with the possibility of extension, grants Eni the role of exclusive Operator of the Junín 5 area, with full responsibility for the technical, financial and commercial management of the project. Junín 5 is a heavy oil field containing 35 billion barrels of certified oil in place.

Methanex has entered into an agreement to sell substantially all of its New Zealand natural gas contractual entitlements commencing in the first quarter of 2027 and continuing through the end of the decade when such entitlements expire. Given the continued decline in domestic natural gas availability and the lack of a clear pathway to meaningful new supply, Methanex has determined that continued operations in New Zealand are not sustainable.

Germany: RWE power stations affected by incident near substation; first power plant units expected to be reconnected to grid later today
RWE announced today (September 2) that around 8.00 pm yesterday evening, an incident occurred in the vicinity of an Amprion substation, as a result of which a total of five RWE lignite-fired power plant units in the Rhenish lignite area, with a combined capacity of 4,200 megawatts (MW), were taken off the grid. At the time, the units were feeding around 3,000 MW of power into the grid.

US: Santos achieves significant milestone at Pikka oil project, advancing ramp-up to plateau production
Santos today announced the successful commencement of seawater injection at the Nanushuk Drillsite-B (NDB) of the Pikka oil project on Alaska’s North Slope. Seawater injection provides pressure support to the reservoir, a key enabler of the production ramp-up targeting plateau production of approx. 80,000 barrels of oil per day (gross) at the end of the third quarter of 2026.

Completion of transformative acquisition establishes Cloudberry as a leading Nordic renewable independent power producer (IPP)
Cloudberry Clean Energy has announced the succcessful completion of the acquisition of a Nordic renewable energy platform from Orrön Energy Holding AB, as announced on 25 June 2026, establishing Cloudberry as a leading Nordic IPP. The transaction adds approximately 758 GWh of annual proportionate power production from a complementary asset base, bringing Cloudberry’s total annual proportionate production to approximately 2.1 TWh, a near doubling compared to year-end 2025.
